AUCKLAND ARTFAIR 2013
with Bath Street Gallery
From August 7 to August 11 of 2013, New Zealand's premier contemporary art event returned to the waterfront at The Cloud on Queens Wharf. Located at the end of Queen Street, the stylish location in the heart of Auckland's downtown once again played host to the international showcase for contemporary art. As participation in the Auckland Art Fair is by invitation only, island6 was more than happy to be part of the 2013 event.
Over the course of 5 days, the Art Fair not only presented the region’s most forward-thinking galleries and artists under one roof, but also held informative programmes of daily artist talks and panel discussions with national and international speakers. Around 10,000 discerning visitors immersed themselves into the thriving contemporary art scene. They viewed and purchased works by the most sought-after artists from more than 35 curated exhibitions and projects. Previous artists exhibits included colorful names such as Damien Hirst, Judy Millar and Yoshitomo Nara – Liu Dao was in very good company indeed!
The island6 art collective, Liu Dao, was represented by our new NZ collaborators from Bath Street Gallery. The successful debut show in March of 2013 “The Garden Beneath the Streetlights” is very well remembered among our friends down under. So once again Liu Dao will meld images of nature with animations of contemporary styling. A vision of man in his techno-dream-natural environment astonished and delighted the select contingent of NZ and Australia’s leading galleries.
A specialty of Auckland Art Fair is the celebrated gala Vernissage for more than 900 guests- the fair’s signature opening party - where good shoes know no bounds. Visitors got an exclusive preview of the art work prior to the doors being thrown open to the general public. island6 put on its dancing shoes and celebrated with art lovers and friends from points all over New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Rim at the unique opening party!
