A phone number hangs over the limp form of a young lady in a cage, directing you to call. Curiosity piqued, you reach for your mobile phone, and dial the number. What results is a shock: the young lady is jolted awake and convulses uncontrollably against the steel bars. Now, you are not a cruel person. If you knew you were causing pain to someone, wouldn't you stop? So why have you not hung up the phone? The answer perhaps lies in the stern imperative, "Call Me". As with the infamous Milgram psychology experiment, our instinctive sense of obedience seems to outstrip personal morality. In this electrifying artwork, Liu Dao invites you dig within yourself to face the sinister reality that often lies hidden under layers of social acceptance. [Loo Ching Ling 吕晶琳]
