Liu Dao are known for pulling the viewer's senses in attempts to pass their artworks for living beings. Their animations taunt. They laugh at the viewer's presence. They stare. They move behind the viewer's back. In "The Legs Of Lemuria", the artwork will seduce.
The animated legs rub against each other, slipping like the elusive sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean known as Lemuria that has never been found. But writer and theosophist Helena Petrovna Blavatsky knew the secrets of Lemuria, and the source of its life: the ether. Like the LED legs, Lemurians were not made of material matter until eventually coming to organic form and evolving for millions of years into what we are now.
Now, in the Information Age, boundaries between life forms and objects are dissipating. Our material existence is splitting like a cell from DNA code to Binary code as we leave footprints of ones and zeroes across the servers of the world to remind family of our existence, give opinions, and find love. Some argue that we experience paraphilia on a daily basis as we stare at screens that look like people, but ultimately are not. [Pete Bradt]
