BLURB

“Da Bizi Laile (Big Nose is Here!)” A group of rowdy young men huddle together, hooting and pointing. What kind of monster or circus freak could have inspired such a reaction? As you, the initially unsuspecting viewer, continue to stare in fascinated horror, a creeping suspicion takes root. Could they be laughing… at you? Resist the urge to turn around to check if anyone weirder is behind. It is you. But wait – look at these young boys, squeezed together for support and mutual validation. Would they dare laugh if they had been alone? Here, Liu Dao examines groupthink, peer pressure, and collective consciousness in a modified antique negative that has survived to show us that for all our self-styled sophistication, we still cannot resist finding safety in numbers.
