BLURB

"The road" has long held a deep fascination for those who love adventure and the great unknown. During the Great Depression in America, people who were out of jobs and unable to afford train fares hitchhiked across the country in search of opportunities. College students, upon graduation, hit the road at unholy speeds. In China, of course, the epic journeys of the Silk Road have become the stuff of legend. However, despite the rich promise of adventure, going on the road clearly has its share of risks, with both hitchhikers and drivers at the receiving end of crimes. So why then is this ghostly figure at the truck stop so desperate for a ride? As she waves and hollers at the passing traffic in vain - one cannot help but wonder, who is she really; and why is she there? Liu Dao references the transient nature of Shanghai's population, and the city's reputation as a mecca for the stout-hearted and daring, in this evocative multimedia work which fuses a 1950s-era photograph with contemporary LED animation.
