From Ancient Egypt to Hawaii, cultures have developed myths associated with the human eye. According to old Chinese superstition, an eye twitch can foretell either good luck or misfortune. For a man, if the left eye twitches, it would be considered a good omen, even possibly gaining financial wealth, but a right eye twitch might mean a turn for the worse. Whereas with women, the reverse is the case: the right eye twitch could be a positive sign and a twitching left eye should make a girl wary of bad luck. Other eye twitching myths can be found throughout India and Africa as well. So whether or not you believe in the superstition, it’s clear that our eyes take on an essential role in cultural mythology – after all, they are the windows to the soul. [Analynn Bustamante]
