According to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, 57% of men admit to committing infidelity in one or more of the relationships they’ve ever had. Women aren’t much better at 53%, which is unsurprisingly the exact same percentage of marriages that end in divorce (especially unsurprising considering that a mere 31% of marriages last after an affair has been admitted/discovered). Speaking of discovery, the percentage of men who said they would have an affair if they knew absolutely that they’d never be found out is 74%. Women 68%. The average length of an affair is around two years, which is plenty of time to produce the 3% of earth’s population that has been born as a direct result of consensual infidelity. Ghana and Turkey have some of the staunchest views on extra marital affairs in the western world (94% said it is unacceptable). And then there’s France. 52% of the entire country see infidelity as either “acceptable” or “not a moral issue” making them by far the most lax country on the subject. This also makes France the most likely place in the world where you would receive a dirty text from some strange number. [Ryan Nimmo]
