It’s quite disorienting to think deeply about orientation. I should tell you I’m not talking about sexual orientation of course- that is not at all disorienting to talk about. I mean the way you imagine everything around you to be: what is up, what is down, these type of things. I can point up and think ‘that’s up’ while someone somewhere far away is doing just the same It’s quite possible we’re both right. This is the sort of standard mom/dad answer to the inquiry. I think though that we really ought to understand that we could very well both be wrong. On the largest of scales you can imagine there’s no particularly uniform way to understand directional orientation really except when you’re moving towards or away from something.
