For some, it's an easy task to have guts. Stunt men, lion tamers and circus performers always appear relentlessly unafraid in the face of potential death. But what about seeing guts? In the 1963 film “The Man with the X-ray Eyes” Dr. James Xavier develops special eye drops that can give a man the ability to see through things. Bones, blood, and guts and even the folds and shapes of gravity. What starts as an incredible ability to see into his patients’ bodies and easily diagnose their problems turns terrifying as his dosage increases. What was once a mild ability to see through clothing becomes a living hell as his vision stretches so far in depth that he can no longer register basic human forms and behaviors and the very fabric of his reality begins to rip apart. Even sleep brings no reprieve as he finds himself staring through his eyelids, wide-awake at night. Whether you have guts or see guts the reaction is probably the same. It’s the ultimate encounter with the true nature of the world, and the realest reminder that you are a mortal human with your own personal ticking clock. [Ryan Nimmo]
