There was an absolute silence. Even the ocean seemed to stop its dance of tides, waves and currents. The surface was sharp, unfamiliar to what I have been used to. Where were the silken smooth sheets which delicately and coldly touched me, and would wake me up every day for past years? The reality hit me fast and hard, and as I discovered, it covered most of my body. The sand got everywhere. Every annoying curve and nook of myself was filled with it. I slowly opened my eyes to see nothing but the sad sky making its recoveries from the storm that must have hit us yesterday. I rolled around a bit, trying to determine sustained injuries. There were none apart from a headache and nausea. But this was a different kind of wrecked. My hand touched something. It was a wooden box. I looked around finding nothing apart from sand, sad sky, endless waters and silence. My yacht was gone. It either went down or only I did. I sat down, holding that box, feeling like a different person, completely someone else. A few hours ago I had everything. I knew who I was and what would my next day would look like. Today I am alone. This is new. This is uncertain. I opened the wooden box, which with its final breath sang the last melody I heard in my life. [Weronika Nossowicz]
