In recent years, Liu Dao has experimented with a series of video art projects. In its signature fusion style, video footages on LCD screens are surprisingly, yet meaningfully, integrated with traditional Chinese papercutting or antique furniture. Unlike the pixelated LED animation, the video footage on LCDs are starkly high-resolution, demanding the viewer's immediate attention and participation; unforgiving in their clarity and recognizability. The result is a startling and evocative inquiry into the meaning of "modernity" and "tradition" and adds to Liu Dao's infinite debate over the integrative/ disruptive nature of technology in our lives.
